Draft Grade — Buccaneers

FutureB-
The Buccaneers won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B. The Xavian Sorey Jr. selection is the head-turner. The Buccaneers reached 131 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Omosigho pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback and running back still on the board. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Moten.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick39
Rnd2
Quincy Rhodes Jr.
They went early on Quincy Rhodes Jr. in No. 39, and the value did not follow. The roster fit checks out.
Pick65
Rnd3
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane at pick 65 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick88
Rnd3
Max Klare
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 24, with Max Klare worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick89
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
Nice patience on A.J. Haulcy, who had no business lasting to the 89th overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick90
Rnd3
Whit Weeks
Whit Weeks at the 90th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick91
Rnd3
Zane Durant
They left a pile of value on the table to take Zane Durant this early at slot 91. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick126
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
A wild overpay on Davison Igbinosun in pick No. 126, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick128
Rnd4
Chase Roberts
They paid up for Chase Roberts at No. 128 when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick131
Rnd4
Sammy Omosigho
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Sammy Omosigho adds a linebacker and leaves quarterback and running back untouched.
Pick180
Rnd5
Dane Key
Dane Key in the 180th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick187
Rnd6
Barion Brown
A big swing on Barion Brown at slot 187, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Pick196
Rnd6
Rasheem Biles
Rasheem Biles in Round 6, Pick 16 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick208
Rnd6
Josh Moten
Value with a capital V on Josh Moten in pick 208, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick211
Rnd6
Brett Norfleet
This one needs a full-page explanation: Brett Norfleet in the Round 6 slot, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick221
Rnd7
Xavian Sorey Jr.
Xavian Sorey Jr. at slot 221 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick248
Rnd7
PJ Williams
They talked themselves into PJ Williams at the 248th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
