Draft Grade — Browns
Overall

FutureC
The Browns won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Browns were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The cost of the Smith reach is exactly the players who went right after him. King falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Spencer Fano
In the 6th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though they paid up to get him.
Pick15
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
Jordyn Tyson at the 15th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
They let Jake Slaughter come to them and pounced at slot 59. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick69
Rnd3
Carter Smith
The board had cheaper options than Carter Smith at pick No. 69, and it noticed. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick70
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. at No. 70 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick106
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
By-the-book stuff, D'Angelo Ponds at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick109
Rnd4
Charles Jagusah
No edge and no loss on Charles Jagusah in Round 4, Pick 9; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick115
Rnd4
Bishop Fitzgerald
Bishop Fitzgerald in pick 115 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick139
Rnd5
Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson in No. 139 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick172
Rnd5
Rayshaun Benny
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Rayshaun Benny. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick204
Rnd6
Robert Spears-Jennings
They paid sticker price for Robert Spears-Jennings in pick 204, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick248
Rnd7
Haynes King
Haynes King at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick249
Rnd7
Rueben Owens II
Nothing to complain about; Rueben Owens II went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick252
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry in the 252nd pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
