Draft Grade — Browns
Overall C-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureC
The Browns got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C-.

The Browns clearly saw something nobody else did in Keylan Rutledge, taking him 32 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. A mixed bag that lands at C-.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The Ponds steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
Carnell Tate in pick 6 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick24 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In the 24th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
They took Jake Slaughter at par in pick No. 39, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick70 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
Steal is underselling it; D'Angelo Ponds at slot 70 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick81 Rnd3 Jacob Rodriguez
They paid up for Jacob Rodriguez at the 81st pick when waiting would have done the job. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick88 Rnd3 Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge at No. 88 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick100 Rnd3 Deion Burks
By-the-book stuff, Deion Burks at the 100th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick107 Rnd4 Tacario Davis
Tacario Davis in pick No. 107 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick139 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
This one needs a full-page explanation: DJ Campbell in the Round 5 slot, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick144 Rnd5 Aaron Graves
A straight-up fair deal on Aaron Graves at slot 144, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick147 Rnd5 Nadame Tucker
Nadame Tucker in No. 147 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick204 Rnd6 Luke Altmyer
Luke Altmyer is a better player than pick 204 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick248 Rnd7 Rueben Owens II
They did well to land Rueben Owens II in Round 7, Pick 32, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
