Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
A-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureA+
The Browns won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: A-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Keyon Ware-Hudson at the 248th pick is 45 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The York pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Gennings Dunker
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Gennings Dunker. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick31
Rnd1
Chris Brazzell II
By-the-book stuff, Chris Brazzell II at the Round 1 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick40
Rnd2
Brandon Cisse
Brandon Cisse at pick 40 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick49
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
A quiet steal in the 49th overall pick: Olaivavega Ioane for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick70
Rnd3
Carson Beck
Carson Beck in No. 70 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick93
Rnd3
Taurean York
Taurean York at Round 3, Pick 29 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick97
Rnd3
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch at pick No. 97 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick107
Rnd4
Blake Miller
They paid up for Blake Miller at No. 107 when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
Pick109
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
They paid sticker price for Tacario Davis in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick126
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
They jumped the gun on DeMonte Capehart, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick139
Rnd5
J'Mari Taylor
No drama and no debate, J'Mari Taylor went about where he belonged in Round 5, Pick 1. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick144
Rnd5
Aaron Graves
A premium they did not need to pay, Aaron Graves a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jaydn Ott
A big swing on Jaydn Ott at the 147th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick161
Rnd5
Lander Barton
They went early on Lander Barton in slot 161, and the value did not follow. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick204
Rnd6
Tristan Leigh
A reach on Tristan Leigh in the Round 6 slot; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
Jordan Hall at pick No. 220 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick221
Rnd7
Peyton Bowen
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Peyton Bowen at No. 221 is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
Pick228
Rnd7
Jalen Catalon
They took Jalen Catalon at par in pick 228, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick248
Rnd7
Keyon Ware-Hudson
They talked themselves into Keyon Ware-Hudson at slot 248, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
