FutureA+
The Browns won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Browns took Jamari Lyons at Round 5, Pick 6, roughly 115 spots before his name belonged. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That Pregnon pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Makai Lemon
In No. 22 they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick24
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
In the 24th pick they get a blindside protector, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick39
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane at pick 39 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick55
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon slipping to the Round 2 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick70
Rnd3
Blake Miller
A wild overpay on Blake Miller in pick No. 70, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick107
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
They took Zachariah Branch at par in the 107th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick123
Rnd4
Drew Allar
The board had cheaper options than Drew Allar at the 123rd pick, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick139
Rnd5
Albert Regis
They liked Albert Regis enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 139. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jamari Lyons
Jamari Lyons at No. 144 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick147
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick248
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Hall at the 248th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
