Nobody dealt better than the Lions this weekend: B-. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Lions shredded theirs for Samuel M'Pemba. He came off 180 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Getting Branch where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
They went 9 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick38
Rnd2
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch at No. 38 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick45
Rnd2
Raylen Wilson
Raylen Wilson at the 45th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick51
Rnd2
CJ Allen
They took CJ Allen at par in Round 2, Pick 19, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick59
Rnd2
Monroe Freeling
A reach for Monroe Freeling in pick No. 59; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick60
Rnd2
Oscar Delp
A premium they did not need to pay, Oscar Delp a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
Pick71
Rnd3
Daylen Everette
A straight-up fair deal on Daylen Everette at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick74
Rnd3
Earnest Greene III
This one needs a full-page explanation: Earnest Greene III in the 74th pick, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick83
Rnd3
Jaden Rashada
A wild overpay on Jaden Rashada in No. 83, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
Pick93
Rnd3
Joenel Aguero
They reached into another round for Joenel Aguero, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick106
Rnd4
Anthony Evans III
They reached a country mile for Anthony Evans III at pick 106, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick113
Rnd4
Lawson Luckie
Lawson Luckie in the 113th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick127
Rnd4
London Humphreys
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for London Humphreys. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick129
Rnd4
Micah Morris
Micah Morris at pick No. 129 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick145
Rnd5
Roderick Robinson II
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Roderick Robinson II well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick149
Rnd5
Jordan Hall
A real head-scratcher, Jordan Hall in the 149th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick166
Rnd5
Colbie Young
A big swing on Colbie Young at No. 166, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick173
Rnd5
Gunner Stockton
Gunner Stockton in pick 173 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick185
Rnd6
Samuel M'Pemba
Samuel M'Pemba at Round 6, Pick 9 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick255
Rnd7
Rara Thomas
They left a pile of value on the table to take Rara Thomas this early at pick No. 255. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick256
Rnd7
Demorie Tate
Demorie Tate at slot 256 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick257
Rnd7
David Daniel-Sisavanh
David Daniel-Sisavanh at the 257th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
