Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB+
FutureB-
The Browns robbed the room for Slaughter. Final grade: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Browns were there to profit. Jake Slaughter, the No. 43 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 70.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Reaching for Tiernan left real value on the table behind him.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Carnell Tate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick24
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
In pick 24 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick39
Rnd2
Gennings Dunker
The board had cheaper options than Gennings Dunker at Round 2, Pick 7, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick40
Rnd2
Caleb Tiernan
Value said wait; Caleb Tiernan in slot 40 says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at the 70th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick107
Rnd4
Nicholas Singleton
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Nicholas Singleton at pick No. 107 is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick139
Rnd5
CJ Daniels
They let CJ Daniels come to them and pounced at the Round 5 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick144
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
A clean, defensible pick in No. 144 with a little surplus value in DeMonte Capehart. The roster fit checks out.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jalen Farmer
Jalen Farmer in the 147th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick204
Rnd6
Dane Key
A tidy little value on Dane Key in pick 204, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick248
Rnd7
Brett Norfleet
Brett Norfleet at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
