Draft Grade — Browns

FutureC
The Browns lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Browns shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Every board in the league had Smith lower, and that gap is the story. The Slaughter value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick20
Rnd1
Gennings Dunker
In the 20th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick28
Rnd1
Kayden McDonald
In No. 28 they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane at the 38th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick39
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon at Round 2, Pick 7 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick59
Rnd2
Carter Smith
A real head-scratcher, Carter Smith in pick No. 59 is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
The board fumbled Jake Slaughter all the way to pick 70, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick87
Rnd3
Julian Neal
A slide stopped in slot 87, with Julian Neal worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick106
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance in pick No. 106 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick107
Rnd4
Jaishawn Barham
Jaishawn Barham in No. 107 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick139
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
A wild overpay on Aamil Wagner in Round 5, Pick 1, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
No drama and no debate, Davison Igbinosun went about where he belonged in the 144th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick147
Rnd5
Tanner Koziol
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tanner Koziol in the Round 5 slot. It fills a real need, too.
