Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Chargers: B.

The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named quarterback, a need the Chargers walked right past.

The Porter pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Reaching for Jones left real value on the table behind him. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
The board had Matthew Golden higher than No. 22, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick55 Rnd2 Dylan Sampson
A straight-up fair deal on Dylan Sampson at the 55th pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick86 Rnd3 Darien Porter
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Darien Porter at pick 86 is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick125 Rnd4 Sai'vion Jones
A premium they did not need to pay, Sai'vion Jones a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick158 Rnd5 Ty Robinson
No drama and no debate, Ty Robinson went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick181 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
They paid a round early for Oronde Gadsden II in pick No. 181, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick199 Rnd6 Jay Higgins
They took Jay Higgins at par in Round 6, Pick 23, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick209 Rnd6 Chimere Dike
By-the-book stuff, Chimere Dike at slot 209 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick214 Rnd6 Cam Horsley
Cam Horsley at slot 214 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick256 Rnd7 Logan Parr
Logan Parr at pick 256 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
