Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Texans let Coleman fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

Whoever sat across the table from the Texans should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. Coleman falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

They will need Ioane to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
In the 26th overall pick they get a blindside protector, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
No edge and no loss on Jake Slaughter in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick61 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman slipping to pick No. 61 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick68 Rnd3 Jonah Coleman
Somehow Jonah Coleman was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 4, and they pounced on premier running back value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick106 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds at slot 106 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick124 Rnd4 Charles Jagusah
A reasonable price with a little left over, Charles Jagusah in the 124th pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick125 Rnd4 Justin Joly
A reach on Justin Joly in pick 125; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick165 Rnd5 Kyle Louis
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 165 with a little surplus value in Kyle Louis. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick242 Rnd7 Smith Snowden
Smith Snowden at the 242nd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick244 Rnd7 Fernando Carmona
Fernando Carmona in No. 244 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
