FOXY KNOXY DRAFTING FOR THESeahawks

Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB+
FutureB-
The Seahawks kept it disciplined and banked a B. The Seahawks did not so much draft Jackson Hawes as overpay for him, 86 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Starks pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. It is not that Bryant is a bad player; it is that the Seahawks had louder needs to answer first. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Kelvin Banks Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick52
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks at Round 2, Pick 20 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick58
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
They did well to land Alfred Collins in No. 58, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick82
Rnd3
Gunnar Helm
Gunnar Helm in pick No. 82 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick85
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
The board had cheaper options than Jared Wilson at the 85th overall pick, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick89
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
They reached into another round for Zy Alexander, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick92
Rnd3
Kyle McCord
A big swing on Kyle McCord at Round 3, Pick 28, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick122
Rnd4
Cobee Bryant
A want over a need in slot 122: Cobee Bryant adds a cornerback while edge rusher, linebacker and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick137
Rnd4
Luke Kandra
This one needs a full-page explanation: Luke Kandra in No. 137, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick172
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They went early on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick 172, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick175
Rnd5
Jackson Hawes
A wild overpay on Jackson Hawes in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick208
Rnd6
Luke Lachey
A straight-up fair deal on Luke Lachey at the 208th pick, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick223
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
They jumped the gun on Carson Vinson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick234
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
No edge and no loss on Isaac TeSlaa in the 234th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jermari Harris
They paid sticker price for Jermari Harris in the 236th overall pick, and that is fine. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
