Good, not great, for the Ravens: B. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Vernon Broughton in pick No. 138, a good 50 spots before the room expected him.
That is a tight end worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Mukuba pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback still on the board. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick50
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Nice patience on Xavier Watts, who had no business lasting to the 50th overall pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick91
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darius Alexander. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick96
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Andrew Mukuba at safety with quarterback open.
Pick104
Rnd4
David Walker
David Walker at No. 104 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick105
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
They took Jordan Phillips at par in slot 105, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick108
Rnd4
Nohl Williams
The board had cheaper options than Nohl Williams at Round 4, Pick 6, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick109
Rnd4
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor in slot 109 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick112
Rnd4
Mello Dotson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mello Dotson well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick118
Rnd4
RJ Harvey
They went early on RJ Harvey in No. 118, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick121
Rnd4
Logan Brown
Logan Brown at the 121st overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick126
Rnd4
Oluwafemi Oladejo
Oluwafemi Oladejo at pick No. 126 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick128
Rnd4
Nick Nash
A big swing on Nick Nash at Round 4, Pick 26, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick129
Rnd4
Cody Simon
They paid sticker price for Cody Simon in pick 129, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick131
Rnd4
Aeneas Peebles
A reach for Aeneas Peebles in the 131st pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick132
Rnd4
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
They talked themselves into Antwaun Powell-Ryland at Round 4, Pick 30, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick134
Rnd4
Kyle Williams
A tidy little value on Kyle Williams in the 134th overall pick, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
Pick136
Rnd4
Ryan Fitzgerald
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 136 on Ryan Fitzgerald with quarterback unsolved.
Pick137
Rnd4
Jonah Monheim
They reached a country mile for Jonah Monheim at slot 137, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138
Rnd4
Vernon Broughton
This one needs a full-page explanation: Vernon Broughton in pick 138, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick142
Rnd5
Jack Kiser
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jack Kiser. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick143
Rnd5
CJ West
CJ West at the 143rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick157
Rnd5
Upton Stout
They left a pile of value on the table to take Upton Stout this early at pick No. 157. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick161
Rnd5
Luke Kandra
Good price on Luke Kandra in pick No. 161, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick172
Rnd5
Damien Martinez
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Damien Martinez at the Round 5 slot is the proof. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick175
Rnd5
Que Robinson
A wild overpay on Que Robinson in slot 175, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick212
Rnd6
Jabbar Muhammad
Value said wait; Jabbar Muhammad in the 212th overall pick says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick243
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes at the 243rd pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
