FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Seahawks a B. The war room fell hard for Jackson Hawes, and it showed at the 223rd pick: 38 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Bryant pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots still on the board. The Riley steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In slot 25 they get a disruptive interior force. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick52
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts in No. 52 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick58
Rnd2
Trey Amos
Trey Amos slipping to the 58th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick66
Rnd3
Demetrius Knight Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Demetrius Knight Jr. in the Round 3 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick82
Rnd3
Cameron Williams
The board had Cameron Williams higher than the 82nd overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick92
Rnd3
Gunnar Helm
Fair-plus on Gunnar Helm, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick95
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick137
Rnd4
Cobee Bryant
A surprising call. With edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots still to address, they spent pick No. 137 on Cobee Bryant, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick166
Rnd5
Quincy Riley
They will replay Quincy Riley at the 166th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick172
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in the 172nd pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick175
Rnd5
Clay Webb
Clay Webb in slot 175 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jackson Hawes well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick234
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at pick 234 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
