FutureB-
Quarterback settled, Mendoza in the fold, and a D for the Raiders. You could see the war room lean forward. Dillon Thieneman at slot 135 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. So much rides on Fernando Mendoza that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They will answer for taking safety early while cornerback and tight end went begging.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Cooper Jr. lower, and that gap is the story.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
A straight-up fair deal on Fernando Mendoza at the 1st pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick22
Rnd1
Keldric Faulk
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Keldric Faulk at Round 1, Pick 22 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick36
Rnd2
Dontay Corleone
No drama and no debate, Dontay Corleone went about where he belonged in pick 36. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick55
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon at the 55th pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick67
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
A big swing on Omar Cooper Jr. at No. 67, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick102
Rnd4
Skyler Bell
A slide stopped in the 102nd overall pick, with Skyler Bell worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick117
Rnd4
Keon Sabb
The board fumbled Keon Sabb all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick118
Rnd4
Charles Jagusah
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Charles Jagusah. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick134
Rnd4
Deontae Lawson
You do not let a linebacker like Deontae Lawson reach Round 4, Pick 34 and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick135
Rnd4
Dillon Thieneman
A want over a need in slot 135: Dillon Thieneman adds a safety while cornerback and tight end keeps waiting.
Pick156
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Drew Allar is a better player than pick 156 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick176
Rnd5
Le'Veon Moss
Le'Veon Moss at the 176th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
