Draft Grade — Raiders

ValueB-

TradesA+
FutureB
The Raiders bet the future on Mendoza. The board says B+. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Fernando Mendoza is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Zuhn III reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the 2nd pick they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick44
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 44 with a little surplus value in Olaivavega Ioane. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick47
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in Round 2, Pick 15 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick67
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
By-the-book stuff, Lee Hunter at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick102
Rnd4
Bishop Fitzgerald
A premium they did not need to pay, Bishop Fitzgerald a notch or two before his time. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick117
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds slipping to No. 117 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick135
Rnd4
Kevin Coleman Jr.
They talked themselves into Kevin Coleman Jr. at pick 135, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick176
Rnd5
Taylen Green
Taylen Green in slot 176 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick181
Rnd6
Gracen Halton
Gracen Halton at pick 181 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick184
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the 184th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick207
Rnd6
De'Zhaun Stribling
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on De'Zhaun Stribling. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick216
Rnd6
Isaac Smith
Isaac Smith at the 216th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick219
Rnd7
Brandon Inniss
They paid sticker price for Brandon Inniss in No. 219, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick242
Rnd7
Luke Hasz
A reach for Luke Hasz in Round 7, Pick 26; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick253
Rnd7
Micah Morris
They went early on Micah Morris in slot 253, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
