Draft Grade — Titans
Overall
D-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB
The Titans left with their quarterback, and a D- to match. The Titans lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
They have staked the next five years on Cam Ward, which is the only story that really matters here. The Williams pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. However the rest shakes out, Mafah at that price is a win they earned.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Cam Ward
In pick No. 1 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
A reach for Jayden Higgins in Round 2, Pick 9; a little patience would have been rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick90
Rnd3
David Walker
David Walker in No. 90 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick120
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
They left a pile of value on the table to take Hollin Pierce this early at the Round 4 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick148
Rnd5
Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at the 148th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick167
Rnd5
Ollie Gordon II
By-the-book stuff, Ollie Gordon II at the 167th pick squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick178
Rnd6
Que Robinson
Que Robinson in pick 178 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick184
Rnd6
Oronde Gadsden II
A conviction pick on Oronde Gadsden II at slot 184 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick187
Rnd6
Upton Stout
Upton Stout at pick 187 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick188
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
A premium they did not need to pay, Jay Higgins a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick255
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah at pick No. 255 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
