Draft Grade — Seahawks

FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Seahawks to a D. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Seahawks took Hayden Conner a full 37 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Landing Walker that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
The Ivan Pace Jr. deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick39
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 7, with Jalon Walker worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick41
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Malaki Starks at the 41st overall pick is the proof. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick50
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
They took Jayden Higgins at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick52
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
They paid up for Donovan Jackson at the 52nd pick when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick80
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor at pick No. 80 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick82
Rnd3
Jordan Phillips
A wild overpay on Jordan Phillips in pick 82, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
They jumped the gun on Jared Wilson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick97
Rnd3
Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa at Round 3, Pick 33 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick119
Rnd4
Tyler Shough
They reached into another round for Tyler Shough, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
Pick137
Rnd4
Jackson Slater
A premium they did not need to pay, Jackson Slater a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick151
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A real head-scratcher, Dont'e Thornton Jr. in No. 151 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick172
Rnd5
Ajani Cornelius
No edge and no loss on Ajani Cornelius in the 172nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick175
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
They went early on JJ Pegues in the 175th pick, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick193
Rnd6
Jason Marshall Jr.
The board had cheaper options than Jason Marshall Jr. at the Round 6 slot, and it noticed. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Value said wait; Jamon Dumas-Johnson in the 223rd pick says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick234
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at slot 234 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
