FutureB-
Hancock should have been long gone. The Chargers pounced, and earned a B. The Chargers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jordan Hancock, the No. 222 name on the board, in pick No. 256. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Colston Loveland
They paid sticker price for Colston Loveland in Round 1, Pick 25, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick55
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
A straight-up fair deal on Jayden Higgins at the 55th pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick79
Rnd3
Demetrius Knight Jr.
Demetrius Knight Jr. at pick No. 79 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick86
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
No drama and no debate, Cam Skattebo went about where he belonged in pick 86. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick125
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
A tidy bit of business in the Round 4 slot, where Jordan Phillips graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick158
Rnd5
Nick Nash
Nothing to complain about; Nick Nash went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick181
Rnd6
JJ Pegues
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on JJ Pegues. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick199
Rnd6
Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders in slot 199 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
The board fumbled Jaylen Reed all the way to Round 6, Pick 33, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick214
Rnd6
Antwane Wells Jr.
The board had Antwane Wells Jr. higher than No. 214, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick256
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock in the 256th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
