Lawson should have been long gone. The Steelers pounced, and earned a B.

Call it larceny. Deontae Lawson sat on the board until slot 76, and the Steelers did not need to be asked twice. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Jordyn Tyson
In No. 21 they get a home-run threat at receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dillon Thieneman at pick 53 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick76 Rnd3 Deontae Lawson
Circle this one: Deontae Lawson at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick85 Rnd3 Julian Neal
They read the board right and Julian Neal was the payoff at pick No. 85. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick99 Rnd3 Emmett Johnson
A quiet steal in the 99th pick: Emmett Johnson for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick121 Rnd4 Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss at slot 121 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick135 Rnd4 Keylan Rutledge
The board had Keylan Rutledge higher than Round 4, Pick 35, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick159 Rnd5 Kevin Coleman Jr.
Value with a capital V on Kevin Coleman Jr. in the 159th overall pick, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick213 Rnd6 Jamal Haynes
No drama and no debate, Jamal Haynes went about where he belonged in No. 213. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick214 Rnd6 Isaac Smith
Isaac Smith in the 214th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick224 Rnd7 PJ Williams
A straight-up fair deal on PJ Williams at the 224th pick, value and slot in agreement. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick237 Rnd7 Jordan Hall
They paid sticker price for Jordan Hall in pick 237, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
