Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Raiders answered their biggest question with Mendoza. Grade: D-. Somebody took the Raiders to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
Fernando Mendoza is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They will need Hunter to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick17
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
They took Arvell Reese at par in the 17th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick49
Rnd2
Zion Young
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zion Young. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter in the Round 3 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick83
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
Value with a capital V on Zakee Wheatley in the 83rd overall pick, a genuine coup. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick102
Rnd4
Malik Muhammad
Malik Muhammad in pick No. 102 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick117
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
A clean, defensible pick in slot 117 with a little surplus value in Domani Jackson. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick118
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling in No. 118 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick135
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
Good price on Keylan Rutledge in the 135th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick157
Rnd5
Jaden Greathouse
Jaden Greathouse is a better player than the 157th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick176
Rnd5
Brenen Thompson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brenen Thompson in pick 176. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
