Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Simpson is the Steelers' new face under center. Grade: B.

Somebody in pick 121 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Steelers sat still while Dante Moore, the No. 3 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

The Bowry pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Ty Simpson gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 8 of 9, with quarterback the one that mattered most.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Ty Simpson
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick53 Rnd2 Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq in pick 53 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick76 Rnd3 Jude Bowry
A real head-scratcher, Jude Bowry in Round 3, Pick 12 is miles ahead of his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick85 Rnd3 Keith Abney II
They let Keith Abney II come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick99 Rnd3 Eric Singleton Jr.
They will replay Eric Singleton Jr. at No. 99 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick121 Rnd4 Dante Moore
They barely believed it either: Dante Moore still on the board at pick 121. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick135 Rnd4 Sammy Omosigho
Value said wait; Sammy Omosigho in the 135th overall pick says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick159 Rnd5 Demond Claiborne
Demond Claiborne is a better player than slot 159 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick214 Rnd6 Robert Spears-Jennings
Robert Spears-Jennings in the 214th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick215 Rnd6 Pat Coogan
Pat Coogan in pick No. 215 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick224 Rnd7 Brenen Thompson
Circle this one: Brenen Thompson at Round 7, Pick 8 is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick237 Rnd7 James Smith
James Smith in slot 237 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
