Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Patriots: B-.

Nobody had Brett Norfleet this high, and it is not close. The Patriots reached 61 spots to get him at the Round 6 slot. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

The Slaughter pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

It is not that Rodriguez is a bad player; it is that the Patriots had louder needs to answer first. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the 30th pick they get the heartbeat of the defense at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Circle this one: Jake Slaughter at the 62nd overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick94 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
Malachi Fields slid further than he should have, and No. 94 is lovely value for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick124 Rnd4 Charles Jagusah
By-the-book stuff, Charles Jagusah at Round 4, Pick 24 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick130 Rnd4 Jacob Rodriguez
A curious use of pick No. 130. Edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; a linebacker in Jacob Rodriguez did not.
Pick170 Rnd5 Duce Robinson
Duce Robinson at pick 170 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick192 Rnd6 Aamil Wagner
A quiet steal in pick 192: Aamil Wagner for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick199 Rnd6 Brett Norfleet
This one needs a full-page explanation: Brett Norfleet in pick No. 199, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
Pick207 Rnd6 Isaiah Nwokobia
Isaiah Nwokobia in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick210 Rnd6 Quinten Joyner
A conviction pick on Quinten Joyner at Round 6, Pick 30 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick245 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the 245th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
