Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Chargers cashed the board's mistake on Martinez: B-.

Call it larceny. Damien Martinez sat on the board until slot 199, and the Chargers did not need to be asked twice. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

Reaching for Dippre left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 T.J. Sanders
In slot 22 they get a load in the middle, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick55 Rnd2 Wyatt Milum
You do not let an offensive lineman like Wyatt Milum reach Round 2, Pick 23 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
Pick86 Rnd3 David Walker
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for David Walker. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick125 Rnd4 Oluwafemi Oladejo
Oluwafemi Oladejo in pick No. 125 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick158 Rnd5 Nick Nash
Nick Nash in the 158th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick181 Rnd6 Que Robinson
They jumped the gun on Que Robinson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick199 Rnd6 Damien Martinez
Steal is underselling it; Damien Martinez at No. 199 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick209 Rnd6 CJ Dippre
A swing that ignored the value entirely, CJ Dippre well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick214 Rnd6 R.J. Mickens
R.J. Mickens at the 214th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick256 Rnd7 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
The board had Jamon Dumas-Johnson higher than pick 256, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
