Draft Grade — Commanders

A respectable, level-headed haul for the Commanders: B-.

The Jordan Hall selection is the head-turner. The Commanders reached 51 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Thieneman. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
The board had Arvell Reese higher than the Round 1 slot, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick55 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Dillon Thieneman in the 55th pick, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick71 Rnd3 Zachariah Branch
They reached into another round for Zachariah Branch, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick123 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
Michael Trigg at pick No. 123 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick145 Rnd5 Domani Jackson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Domani Jackson in No. 145. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick185 Rnd6 Bryce Foster
A premium they did not need to pay, Bryce Foster a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick196 Rnd6 Jordan Hall
They reached a country mile for Jordan Hall at Round 6, Pick 17, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick202 Rnd6 Roderick Kearney
Roderick Kearney at the 202nd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick223 Rnd7 Rueben Owens II
They talked themselves into Rueben Owens II at the 223rd pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
