FutureF
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Vikings to a F. The Vikings lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Hill Jr. pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, offensive lineman and other spots. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
In the end, a class that has to defy its grades just to matter.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
Jeremiyah Love at the Round 1 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick16
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
They did well to land Jermod McCoy in the 16th pick, just ahead of his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick27
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
Arvell Reese is a better player than slot 27 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick33
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, offensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent pick No. 33 on Anthony Hill Jr., a linebacker they were not short of.
Pick35
Rnd2
John Mateer
They paid sticker price for John Mateer in No. 35, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick65
Rnd3
Dillon Thieneman
A quiet steal in the 65th overall pick: Dillon Thieneman for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
