Draft Grade — Texans
Overall

FutureA
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Texans and Williams: D+. Somebody took the Texans to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
Landing Williams that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Taylor pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick46
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Anthony Hill Jr.. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick50
Rnd2
Arvell Reese
Steal is underselling it; Arvell Reese at pick No. 50 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick51
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
The board fumbled Caleb Banks all the way to pick 51, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick53
Rnd2
Connor Lew
A slide stopped in slot 53, with Connor Lew worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick71
Rnd3
Dillon Thieneman
A tidy bit of business in the 71st pick, where Dillon Thieneman graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick84
Rnd3
Caleb Tiernan
They jumped the gun on Caleb Tiernan, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
Pick111
Rnd4
Antonio Williams
They barely believed it either: Antonio Williams still on the board at the 111th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick120
Rnd4
Kenyatta Jackson Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Kenyatta Jackson Jr. at No. 120 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick123
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
Tacario Davis at Round 4, Pick 23 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick152
Rnd5
Darius Taylor
They went early on Darius Taylor in pick 152, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick191
Rnd6
Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at slot 191 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. The roster fit checks out.
Pick202
Rnd6
Bud Clark
Bud Clark is a better player than the 202nd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick228
Rnd7
Barion Brown
They took Barion Brown at par in pick No. 228, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick229
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in the Round 7 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jerry Wilson
No drama and no debate, Jerry Wilson went about where he belonged in pick No. 236. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick242
Rnd7
Diego Pavia
Diego Pavia in the 242nd overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick257
Rnd7
Lawson Luckie
A reasonable price with a little left over, Lawson Luckie in slot 257. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
