Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureC
The Bears got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Bears started one anyway for J.C. Davis, 34 picks ahead of schedule. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

They banked enough surplus on Thieneman to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick38 Rnd2 Zion Young
They jumped the gun on Zion Young, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick44 Rnd2 Lee Hunter
A big swing on Lee Hunter at Round 2, Pick 12, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick57 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
The board had Dillon Thieneman higher than the Round 2 slot, and the safety fell to them anyway. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick59 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. is a better player than slot 59 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick87 Rnd3 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at pick 87 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick90 Rnd3 J.C. Davis
J.C. Davis in the 90th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick149 Rnd5 Kevin Coleman Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kevin Coleman Jr. in pick No. 149. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick156 Rnd5 Bud Clark
Bud Clark at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick157 Rnd5 Miles Kitselman
Miles Kitselman at pick 157 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It adds depth where they could use a little.
