Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The Steelers' one glaring miss is edge rusher, a need they left exactly as they found it.

On value alone, Hunter makes the weekend a net positive. The cost of the Bell reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Chris Bell
A reach on Chris Bell in Round 1, Pick 21; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
Pick53 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
A quiet steal in pick No. 53: Dillon Thieneman for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick76 Rnd3 Eli Stowers
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Eli Stowers worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick85 Rnd3 Lee Hunter
The board had Lee Hunter higher than slot 85, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick99 Rnd3 Daylen Everette
They did well to land Daylen Everette in pick 99, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick121 Rnd4 Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss in the 121st pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick135 Rnd4 Kage Casey
Kage Casey in No. 135 is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick159 Rnd5 Brenen Thompson
A clean, defensible pick in the 159th overall pick with a little surplus value in Brenen Thompson. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick213 Rnd6 Dijon Johnson
They jumped the gun on Dijon Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
Pick214 Rnd6 Hykeem Williams
No drama and no debate, Hykeem Williams went about where he belonged in the 214th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick224 Rnd7 PJ Williams
A straight-up fair deal on PJ Williams at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick237 Rnd7 London Humphreys
A reasonable price with a little left over, London Humphreys in pick 237. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
