Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
B
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureA-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Dolphins: B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Dolphins did exactly that with Micah Morris in No. 248.
The Moore steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In the 24th pick they get a security blanket over the middle. A real need, handled.
Pick43
Rnd2
Chris Johnson
Good price on Chris Johnson in pick 43, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick49
Rnd2
Dani Dennis-Sutton
Dani Dennis-Sutton in the 49th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick70
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
A reach on Omar Cooper Jr. in slot 70; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick95
Rnd3
Jaeden Roberts
They reached into another round for Jaeden Roberts, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick107
Rnd4
Caden Curry
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Caden Curry. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick111
Rnd4
Malachi Lawrence
Malachi Lawrence at No. 111 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick126
Rnd4
Mike Washington Jr.
Mike Washington Jr. in slot 126 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick149
Rnd5
Ted Hurst
No drama and no debate, Ted Hurst went about where he belonged in the 149th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick152
Rnd5
Nadame Tucker
Nadame Tucker in pick No. 152 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick168
Rnd5
Louis Moore
Louis Moore at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick169
Rnd5
Sawyer Robertson
A wild overpay on Sawyer Robertson in the 169th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick177
Rnd5
Taylen Green
Taylen Green in pick 177 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick204
Rnd6
Josh Moten
Nothing to complain about; Josh Moten went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick215
Rnd6
Jalen Huskey
Jalen Huskey at No. 215 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick247
Rnd7
Ahmaad Moses
Ahmaad Moses at the 247th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick248
Rnd7
Micah Morris
Micah Morris at slot 248 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
