TradesA+
FutureA+
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Dolphins a A-. There is reaching, and then there is Nadame Tucker at slot 113. The Dolphins jumped the board by 55 and dared it to prove them wrong. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The linebacker hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Getting Scott where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
The Dolphins indulged a want in Masses while a need in linebacker stayed open.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick Analysis
Pick47
Rnd2
Elijah Sarratt
They paid sticker price for Elijah Sarratt in pick 47, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter at No. 58 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick75
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Omar Cooper Jr. at the 75th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick83
Rnd3
Jaeden Roberts
They talked themselves into Jaeden Roberts at pick No. 83, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick87
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
Keionte Scott in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick92
Rnd3
Malachi Lawrence
A wild overpay on Malachi Lawrence in Round 3, Pick 28, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick97
Rnd3
Justin Joly
Justin Joly in the 97th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
Pick111
Rnd4
Michael Trigg
Michael Trigg in Round 4, Pick 11 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick113
Rnd4
Nadame Tucker
They reached a country mile for Nadame Tucker at pick 113, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick115
Rnd4
Gracen Halton
Gracen Halton in the Round 4 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick125
Rnd4
Hezekiah Masses
A curious use of No. 125. Linebacker needed the pick; a cornerback in Hezekiah Masses did not.
Pick149
Rnd5
J'Mari Taylor
They took J'Mari Taylor at par in slot 149, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick152
Rnd5
Sawyer Robertson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Sawyer Robertson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick157
Rnd5
Louis Moore
They did well to land Louis Moore in the 157th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick160
Rnd5
Tanner Koziol
Tanner Koziol at pick No. 160 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick172
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Value with a capital V on Davison Igbinosun in No. 172, a genuine coup. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick194
Rnd6
Pat Coogan
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Pat Coogan. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick216
Rnd6
Cole Payton
Cole Payton in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick227
Rnd7
Nick Barrett
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nick Barrett well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
