Mattyg35 DRAFTING FOR THEJets

Draft Grade — Jets
Overall

FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Jets, and a B- to prove it. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Jets spent pick 257 on Duce Chestnut, a name the board had a full 80 spots lower. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Chambliss at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In the 4th overall pick they get a rangy last line of defense. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick18
Rnd1
Kayden McDonald
In the 18th pick they get a load in the middle, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick35
Rnd2
A'Mauri Washington
They reached a country mile for A'Mauri Washington at the Round 2 slot, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick45
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles at slot 45 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick119
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
Nothing to complain about; D'Angelo Ponds went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick176
Rnd5
CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels at Round 5, Pick 37 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick178
Rnd5
Lee Hunter
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Lee Hunter. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick196
Rnd6
Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss slid further than he should have, and the 196th overall pick is lovely value for the quarterback. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick205
Rnd6
DeAndre Moore Jr.
This one needs a full-page explanation: DeAndre Moore Jr. in slot 205, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick212
Rnd6
Amare Campbell
Amare Campbell at the 212th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick220
Rnd7
Nolan Rucci
They left a pile of value on the table to take Nolan Rucci this early at the Round 7 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick240
Rnd7
Tristan Leigh
Tristan Leigh at Round 7, Pick 24 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick255
Rnd7
Marquis Johnson
A real head-scratcher, Marquis Johnson in pick 255 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick257
Rnd7
Duce Chestnut
A wild overpay on Duce Chestnut in No. 257, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
