Larceny in Round 5, Pick 30 lands the Patriots a C, Styles and all.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Sonny Styles, the No. 37 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 169. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C.

Reaching for Coleman Jr. left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Kevin Coleman Jr.
In No. 30 they get a true top target, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick62 Rnd2 Chris Brazzell II
They will replay Chris Brazzell II at pick 62 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick94 Rnd3 Zion Young
The board fumbled Zion Young all the way to slot 94, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick125 Rnd4 Fernando Carmona
They reached a country mile for Fernando Carmona at the Round 4 slot, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick130 Rnd4 Bishop Fitzgerald
Bishop Fitzgerald in the 130th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick169 Rnd5 Sonny Styles
Somehow Sonny Styles was still sitting there in pick No. 169, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick190 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the 190th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick201 Rnd6 Rueben Owens II
They left a pile of value on the table to take Rueben Owens II this early at Round 6, Pick 21. The roster fit checks out.
Pick208 Rnd6 Markis Deal
A real head-scratcher, Markis Deal in pick 208 is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick210 Rnd6 Korey Foreman
This one needs a full-page explanation: Korey Foreman in the 210th overall pick, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick246 Rnd7 Logan Jones
Logan Jones at Round 7, Pick 30 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
