Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall D+
ValueF NeedB- TradesC+ FutureB+
The board sent warnings the Bengals ignored, and it shows: D+.

The Bengals clearly saw something nobody else did in Da'Shawn Womack, taking him 157 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.

For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. With cornerback, tight end and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on edge rusher is the choice that costs them.

The Johnson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Patrick Payton
In pick No. 25 they get a bendy edge with upside, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Pick89 Rnd3 Da'Shawn Womack
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Da'Shawn Womack at edge rusher with cornerback, tight end and other spots open.
Pick125 Rnd4 Austin Siereveld
A wild overpay on Austin Siereveld in No. 125, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick164 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for DJ Campbell. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick203 Rnd6 Micah Morris
A big swing on Micah Morris at slot 203, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick238 Rnd7 Marquis Johnson
Marquis Johnson in the 238th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick252 Rnd7 Kendrick Law
They liked Kendrick Law enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 7 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
