The Lions let Slaughter fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. You could see the war room lean forward. Jake Slaughter at the Round 2 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Rueben Bain Jr.
In pick No. 27 they get a premier pass rusher, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
They barely believed it either: Jake Slaughter still on the board at pick 59. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick127
Rnd4
Raylen Wilson
A tidy bit of business in the 127th overall pick, where Raylen Wilson graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick166
Rnd5
Mark Fletcher Jr.
Mark Fletcher Jr. at the 166th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
Pick188
Rnd6
Jackson Arnold
They will replay Jackson Arnold at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
