Draft Grade — Cowboys

The Cowboys lost the trade table, and the D tells the story. The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for Malachi Lawrence, 48 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
That Reese pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In the 12th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick25
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick57
Rnd2
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick89
Rnd3
Malachi Lawrence
They talked themselves into Malachi Lawrence at No. 89, and the board did not agree. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jack Endries
Value with a capital V on Jack Endries in slot 112, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
Pick150
Rnd5
DJ Campbell
They paid up for DJ Campbell at pick 150 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick177
Rnd5
Dane Key
No edge and no loss on Dane Key in the 177th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick215
Rnd6
Gunner Stockton
Gunner Stockton is a better player than No. 215 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick221
Rnd7
PJ Williams
No drama and no debate, PJ Williams went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick225
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
Jordan Hall in pick 225 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
