Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Chargers checked most of the boxes and earned a B.

Boards are made to be trusted, and the Chargers shredded theirs for Ahmed Hassanein. He came off 49 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The Mullings pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
Matthew Golden at Round 1, Pick 22 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick56 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
Derrick Harmon at the 56th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick86 Rnd3 Jordan Burch
They paid sticker price for Jordan Burch in pick 86, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick109 Rnd4 Gunnar Helm
Gunnar Helm at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick125 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Jake Majors in slot 125 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick158 Rnd5 Kalel Mullings
They will replay Kalel Mullings at No. 158 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick181 Rnd6 Ahmed Hassanein
They reached into another round for Ahmed Hassanein, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick199 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
The board fumbled JJ Pegues all the way to pick 199, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick209 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Oronde Gadsden II in the Round 6 slot, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick214 Rnd6 Jack Kiser
Taking Jack Kiser in Round 6, Pick 38 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick255 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa at pick No. 255 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
