Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Panthers.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Barryn Sorrell in pick 114, a good 51 spots before the room expected him. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

Getting Simon where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 4 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 James Pearce Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick57 Rnd2 Xavier Restrepo
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Restrepo at pick No. 57, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick74 Rnd3 Kyle Kennard
They paid sticker price for Kyle Kennard in pick 74, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick111 Rnd4 Kaimon Rucker
They talked themselves into Kaimon Rucker at the 111th pick, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick114 Rnd4 Barryn Sorrell
This one needs a full-page explanation: Barryn Sorrell in Round 4, Pick 12, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick140 Rnd5 Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins
Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins at No. 140 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick146 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
Steal is underselling it; Cobee Bryant at pick 146 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick163 Rnd5 Cody Simon
They robbed the room for Cody Simon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick230 Rnd7 Howard Cross III
Howard Cross III slid further than he should have, and the 230th pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. It adds depth where they could use a little.
