Draft Grade — Cowboys

FutureB-
The Cowboys did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. Nobody else had Kamran James anywhere near No. 215. The Cowboys did, by 49 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Getting Reese where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick No. 18 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick20
Rnd1
Colton Hood
In the 20th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick49
Rnd2
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy at Round 2, Pick 17 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick97
Rnd3
Daylen Everette
Daylen Everette at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick115
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
Good price on Tacario Davis in the 115th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick150
Rnd5
Earnest Greene III
Value said wait; Earnest Greene III in pick 150 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick177
Rnd5
Bud Clark
By-the-book stuff, Bud Clark at No. 177 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick194
Rnd6
Antonio Kite
Antonio Kite in Round 6, Pick 15 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick215
Rnd6
Kamran James
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kamran James well ahead of where he belonged. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick221
Rnd7
Ethan O'Connor
Ethan O'Connor at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick225
Rnd7
PJ Williams
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on PJ Williams. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick249
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
Jordan Hall at the 249th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick252
Rnd7
Preston Hodge
They paid sticker price for Preston Hodge in pick 252, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
