Draft Grade — Panthers

FutureB-
Walker should have been long gone. The Panthers pounced, and earned a B. Somebody in pick No. 44 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Panthers sat still while Jalon Walker, the No. 24 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
Tetairoa McMillan in the Round 1 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at the 44th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick57
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts slid further than he should have, and slot 57 is lovely value for the safety. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick74
Rnd3
Cameron Williams
Fair-plus on Cameron Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick111
Rnd4
Barrett Carter
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Barrett Carter at the 111th pick is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick114
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at pick 114 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick140
Rnd5
Ty Hamilton
Ty Hamilton slipping to pick No. 140 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick146
Rnd5
Jonas Sanker
Jonas Sanker is a better player than Round 5, Pick 8 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick163
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
A reach on Seth McLaughlin in No. 163; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick204
Rnd6
Jay Toia
No edge and no loss on Jay Toia in slot 204; it is a wash and a sensible one. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick230
Rnd7
Alijah Huzzie
A tidy little value on Alijah Huzzie in the 230th pick, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
