Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueA+
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureB-
The Bears let McCoy fall and pounced. Final grade: B-. The rest of the league will want that one back. Jermod McCoy tumbling to the Bears in pick No. 221 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In No. 25 they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick57
Rnd2
David Bailey
You do not let an edge rusher like David Bailey reach Round 2, Pick 25 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick69
Rnd3
Spencer Fano
Taking Spencer Fano in the 69th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89
Rnd3
Mansoor Delane
They will replay Mansoor Delane at the 89th pick for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick128
Rnd4
Kayden McDonald
Kayden McDonald in pick No. 128 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick156
Rnd5
Sonny Styles
They barely believed it either: Sonny Styles still on the board at pick 156. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick180
Rnd6
Jordyn Tyson
The board fumbled Jordyn Tyson all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Pick183
Rnd6
Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe in slot 183 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick184
Rnd6
Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter at the 184th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick190
Rnd6
Romello Height
Romello Height at pick No. 190 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick191
Rnd6
Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq at pick 191 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick221
Rnd7
Jermod McCoy
They robbed the room for Jermod McCoy here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick225
Rnd7
Deontae Lawson
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Deontae Lawson in slot 225, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick235
Rnd7
Genesis Smith
A safety of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 19 is the definition of value, full stop. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick239
Rnd7
Tyreak Sapp
Steal is underselling it; Tyreak Sapp at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick241
Rnd7
Connor Lew
Somehow Connor Lew was still sitting there in No. 241, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
