Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Steelers: B-.

Everything else got attention, and edge rusher got none. That is a strange way for the Steelers to leave a draft. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

The Rodriguez pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Ramsey. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Jordyn Tyson
They read the board right and Jordyn Tyson was the payoff at the 21st overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick53 Rnd2 Kamari Ramsey
Nice patience on Kamari Ramsey, who had no business lasting to the 53rd pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick76 Rnd3 Will Lee III
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Will Lee III at pick 76. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick85 Rnd3 John Mateer
John Mateer at Round 3, Pick 21 is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick99 Rnd3 Emmett Johnson
Emmett Johnson slipping to slot 99 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
Pick121 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson at pick No. 121 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
Pick136 Rnd4 Jacob Rodriguez
A conviction pick on Jacob Rodriguez at No. 136 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick160 Rnd5 Kevin Coleman Jr.
Kevin Coleman Jr. at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick213 Rnd6 Daevin Hobbs
A reach for Daevin Hobbs in No. 213; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick214 Rnd6 Tristan Leigh
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tristan Leigh. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick224 Rnd7 Isaac Smith
They took Isaac Smith at par in the 224th pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick237 Rnd7 Riley Mahlman
They paid sticker price for Riley Mahlman in pick No. 237, and that is fine. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
