FutureA+
Larceny in No. 211 lands the Jaguars a A, Rourke and all. Call it larceny. Kurtis Rourke sat on the board until Round 6, Pick 33, and the Jaguars did not need to be asked twice.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up.
Greg Newsome II gives the group a proven body among the projects. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Bottom line, with Kenneth Grant leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick36
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 4, where Kenneth Grant graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick67
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
Isaiah Bond in slot 67 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick70
Rnd3
Azareye'h Thomas
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Azareye'h Thomas in the 70th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick88
Rnd3
Darien Porter
Darien Porter slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick106
Rnd4
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo slid further than he should have, and pick No. 106 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick125
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. in pick 125 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick143
Rnd5
Brashard Smith
The board fumbled Brashard Smith all the way to the 143rd overall pick, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Pick150
Rnd5
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in No. 150 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick184
Rnd6
Tommi Hill
They barely believed it either: Tommi Hill still on the board at the Round 6 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick190
Rnd6
Luke Lachey
A straight-up fair deal on Luke Lachey at Round 6, Pick 12, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick211
Rnd6
Kurtis Rourke
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Kurtis Rourke in the 211th overall pick, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick223
Rnd7
Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne at slot 223 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick249
Rnd7
Torricelli Simpkins III
A reasonable price with a little left over, Torricelli Simpkins III in pick 249. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
