Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
D-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureB-
Mendoza is the plan now, and the Raiders grade out a D-. The war room fell hard for Rueben Owens II, and it showed at the Round 6 slot: 51 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The whole projection now runs through Fernando Mendoza; hit there and everything else looks smarter. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
However the rest shakes out, Scott at that price is a win they earned.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
Fernando Mendoza at No. 1 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick29
Rnd1
Dani Dennis-Sutton
In pick No. 29 they get a disruptor off the edge, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Zion Young
They paid a round early for Zion Young in the 36th overall pick, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick61
Rnd2
Lee Hunter
They went early on Lee Hunter in Round 2, Pick 29, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick67
Rnd3
Skyler Bell
Skyler Bell in pick 67 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick93
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
Taking Zakee Wheatley in the 93rd pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick102
Rnd4
Keionte Scott
You do not let a cornerback like Keionte Scott reach No. 102 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick117
Rnd4
Blake Miller
Blake Miller in pick No. 117 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick135
Rnd4
CJ Daniels
They took CJ Daniels at par in slot 135, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick168
Rnd5
Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott in the 168th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick176
Rnd5
Pat Coogan
They paid sticker price for Pat Coogan in the 176th pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick181
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
A wild overpay on Trey Zuhn III in Round 6, Pick 1, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick184
Rnd6
Thaddeus Dixon
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Thaddeus Dixon. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick206
Rnd6
Rueben Owens II
They reached a country mile for Rueben Owens II at the Round 6 slot, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick209
Rnd6
Nolan Rucci
No drama and no debate, Nolan Rucci went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 29. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
