Draft Grade — Raiders

FutureB-
The Raiders left with their quarterback, and a D- to match. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Raiders shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
So much rides on Fernando Mendoza that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They will need Overton to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. That Golday pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick29
Rnd1
LT Overton
In the 29th pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick49
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
A tidy little value on Emmanuel Pregnon in pick No. 49, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick61
Rnd2
Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter in slot 61 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick67
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
They took Zakee Wheatley at par in pick 67, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick82
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
Keionte Scott at Round 3, Pick 18 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick93
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. at No. 93 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick102
Rnd4
Jake Golday
Jake Golday at the 102nd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick117
Rnd4
Blake Miller
No drama and no debate, Blake Miller went about where he belonged in slot 117. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick135
Rnd4
CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels at the 135th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick168
Rnd5
Terion Stewart
Terion Stewart in pick 168 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick176
Rnd5
Pat Coogan
By-the-book stuff, Pat Coogan at pick No. 176 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
