Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

FutureB+
The Patriots checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 74 spots for Kamran James, and value like that does not grow back.
They banked enough surplus on Fields to cover a lot of smaller sins. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick52
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 20: Dillon Thieneman for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick72
Rnd3
Germie Bernard
Nothing to complain about; Germie Bernard went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick95
Rnd3
Malachi Fields
They will replay Malachi Fields at the 95th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick110
Rnd4
Caden Curry
They took Caden Curry at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick120
Rnd4
J.C. Davis
J.C. Davis at the 120th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick125
Rnd4
Michael Trigg
A tidy little value on Michael Trigg in slot 125, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick131
Rnd4
Logan Jones
No drama and no debate, Logan Jones went about where he belonged in the 131st overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick177
Rnd5
Eric O'Neill
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Eric O'Neill well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick189
Rnd6
Gracen Halton
Gracen Halton at pick 189 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick200
Rnd6
Kamran James
Value said wait; Kamran James in No. 200 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick207
Rnd6
DJ Harvey
They read the board right and DJ Harvey was the payoff at the 207th pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick210
Rnd6
Cole Payton
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cole Payton in pick No. 210. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick221
Rnd7
Jamal Haynes
A straight-up fair deal on Jamal Haynes at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick226
Rnd7
Fernando Carmona
By-the-book stuff, Fernando Carmona at Round 7, Pick 10 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick247
Rnd7
Ethan O'Connor
Ethan O'Connor at the 247th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick257
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
No edge and no loss on Jordan Hall in Round 7, Pick 41; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
