Draft Grade — Rams
Overall
C+
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesD-
FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Rams to a C+. The Rams lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Gray pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They are betting McClellan proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In the 19th overall pick they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
The board had Chop Robinson higher than the Round 2 slot, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick60
Rnd2
Ruke Orhorhoro
Ruke Orhorhoro at the 60th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick99
Rnd3
Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop at No. 99 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick133
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at Round 4, Pick 33 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick154
Rnd5
Cornelius Johnson
A straight-up fair deal on Cornelius Johnson at pick 154, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick196
Rnd6
Jase McClellan
They talked themselves into Jase McClellan at slot 196, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick209
Rnd6
Josh Proctor
Josh Proctor in pick No. 209 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick213
Rnd6
M.J. Devonshire
M.J. Devonshire at pick 213 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick217
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
No drama and no debate, Joe Milton III went about where he belonged in the 217th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick254
Rnd7
Trente Jones
A reasonable price with a little left over, Trente Jones in the Round 7 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
