Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Cowboys to a D-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent pick 112 on Vincent Anthony Jr., a name most had 67 spots down the list. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The Cowboys indulged a want in Banks while a need in running back and tight end stayed open. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.

However the rest shakes out, Wheatley at that price is a win they earned.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 T.J. Parker
In slot 12 they get a disruptor off the edge. Need was not the driver here.
Pick20 Rnd1 Anthony Hill Jr.
In No. 20 they get the heartbeat of the defense, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick40 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
A surprising call. With running back and tight end still to address, they spent Round 2, Pick 8 on Caleb Banks, an edge rusher they were not short of.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jake Golday
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jake Golday at edge rusher with running back and tight end open.
Pick87 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Zakee Wheatley at pick No. 87 is the proof. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick92 Rnd3 Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts at the Round 3 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick112 Rnd4 Vincent Anthony Jr.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went edge rusher with Vincent Anthony Jr. while clear needs at running back and tight end sat open.
Pick151 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
No drama and no debate, Davison Igbinosun went about where he belonged in slot 151. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick178 Rnd5 Bud Clark
Bud Clark at Round 5, Pick 39 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick215 Rnd6 Luke Altmyer
A slide stopped in the Round 6 slot, with Luke Altmyer worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick221 Rnd7 J. Michael Sturdivant
They paid sticker price for J. Michael Sturdivant in the 221st pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick225 Rnd7 Jordan Hall
A wild overpay on Jordan Hall in the 225th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
