Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Lew: B-.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Connor Lew got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 95.

The Alexander pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

A fair-value weekend of trading, no edge to be found.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles in the 31st pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick63 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman in the Round 2 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick95 Rnd3 Connor Lew
You do not let an offensive lineman like Connor Lew reach Round 3, Pick 31 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick125 Rnd4 Eli Raridon
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Eli Raridon. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick131 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
A straight-up fair deal on Ar'maj Reed-Adams at pick 131, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick169 Rnd5 Bud Clark
Bud Clark at pick No. 169 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick189 Rnd6 Kalil Alexander
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kalil Alexander in the 189th overall pick, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick207 Rnd6 Barion Brown
They took Barion Brown at par in No. 207, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick210 Rnd6 Tristan Leigh
Tristan Leigh in Round 6, Pick 31 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick247 Rnd7 Micah Morris
By-the-book stuff, Micah Morris at pick 247 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
