Larceny in the Round 6 slot lands the Jaguars a A-, Etienne and all. The Jaguars spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Trevor Etienne, the No. 142 name on the board, in Round 6, Pick 18. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
Kiser has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Luther Burden III
In the 25th pick they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 4, with Malaki Starks worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick58
Rnd2
Shemar Turner
They left a pile of value on the table to take Shemar Turner this early at the Round 2 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick70
Rnd3
Gunnar Helm
They talked themselves into Gunnar Helm at the 70th overall pick, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick88
Rnd3
Emery Jones Jr.
They reached a country mile for Emery Jones Jr. at pick 88, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick89
Rnd3
Anthony Belton
They reached into another round for Anthony Belton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick107
Rnd4
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in slot 107 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick126
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer at pick No. 126 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick142
Rnd5
Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick182
Rnd6
Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley at the 182nd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick194
Rnd6
Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne at Round 6, Pick 18 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
