Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Steelers for Chambliss: B-.

Call it larceny. Trinidad Chambliss sat on the board until the 160th pick, and the Steelers did not need to be asked twice. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

The Prongos reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. With interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on offensive lineman is the choice that costs them.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In the 21st overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that.
Pick53 Rnd2 Carson Beck
They left a pile of value on the table to take Carson Beck this early at Round 2, Pick 21. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick76 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
Steal is underselling it; Jake Slaughter at pick 76 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick85 Rnd3 Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick99 Rnd3 Niki Prongos
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots to take Niki Prongos, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick121 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing D'Angelo Ponds in No. 121. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick136 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Ar'maj Reed-Adams adds an offensive lineman and leaves interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots untouched.
Pick160 Rnd5 Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss at slot 160 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick213 Rnd6 Jamal Haynes
Jamal Haynes at the 213th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick214 Rnd6 Peyton Bowen
They paid sticker price for Peyton Bowen in the 214th overall pick, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick224 Rnd7 Tristan Leigh
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 224 with a little surplus value in Tristan Leigh. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick237 Rnd7 Dominic Zvada
Dominic Zvada at No. 237 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
